Hoosiers Head to Northern Iowa

Bloomington, Ind. - The Indiana wrestling team heads to Cedar Falls, Iowa, to participate at the Northern Iowa Open. This marks the second straight year the Hoosiers have competed at the event. Approximately 300 wrestlers from around the Midwest are expected to attend the event beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Sat., Dec. 6.
"This is a tournament for us to gain some more experience, get a lot of matches in and stay healthy so we can move on," said IU head coach Duane Goldman. "It's not as as big a tournament as the Missouri Open, but there are a lot of ranked teams there."
Last weekend, Indiana picked up a pair of victories in its home opener. The Hoosiers downed Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, 36-6 and Manchester, 36-9.
HOOSIERS IN THE POLLS
The Indiana wrestling team received honorable mention in the preseason NCAA I Wrestling Rankings according to Intermat Wrestling. Eight of the Hoosiers opponents, including Illinois, Missouri, Michigan, Minnesota, Penn State, Wisconsin, Purdue and Michigan State received votes in the top 25.

Senior Coyte Cooper is ranked fifth at 141 pounds, freshman Matt McIntire is ranked 14th at 149 pounds, sophomore Brady Richardson is ranked 13th at 174 pounds, sophomore Andy Rios is ranked 15th at 184 pounds and junior Pat DeGain is ranked 10th at 197 pounds.
