HOOSIERS FAIL TO ADVANCE ANY TO FINALS DURING FIRST DAY AT 2003 NCAA SWIMMING AND DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Auburn, Ala.. - The Indiana women's swimming and diving squad failed to advance any athletes to tonight's finals at the 2003 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. Junior Cassandra Cardinell and senior Sara Hildebrand did earn points for the Hoosiers as the two finished 10th and 15th, respectively on 1-Meter. The highest-placing IU swimmer was junior Meghan Medendorp who finished tied for 20th in the 50-yard freestyle (23.05).Indiana swimmers and divers competed in the following events during today's preliminaries:
200-Yard Freestyle Relay
Junior Meghan Medendorp, senior Tina Gretlund, freshman Doherty Colgin, freshman Lauren Lubus - Disqualified
500-Yard Freestyle
Junior Sarah Fiden - 32nd in 4:50.67
Junior Erin Gorlesky - 40th in 4:51.87
200-Yard Individual Medley
Senior Kristy Martin - 48th in 2:04.39
Junior Brooke Taflinger - 50th in 2:04.49
50-Yard Freestyle
Junior Meghan Medendorp - 20th in 23.05
1-Meter Diving
Junior Cassandra Cardinell - 10th with 271.25
Senior Sara Hildebrand - 15th with 266.70
Senior Lori Matthys - 31st with 230.80
The 2003 NCAA Championships resume Friday morning at noon EST.
