Dayton, Ohio - The Indiana rowing team competed in its second regatta of the spring today against the University of Dayton and the University of Cincinnati. Due to windy weather conditions the race course was changed from 2000 meters to three 1000-meter pieces per boat with a floating start.
"Overall it was a good race," head coach Mark Wilson said. "We definitely improved from last weekend. Dayton and Cincinnati are good programs and our team competed well against them. This weekend was a good experience for IU and we will take this experience into our next race."
The Hoosiers captured 10 wins out of a possible 18 on the day. The Novice 4, Varsity 8 and Junior Varsity 8 each captured one of its three races. The Novice 8 and the Varsity 4 captured two victories and the second Novice 8 swept all three of its races.
Also competing for Indiana in an exhibition race was the Quad boat.
"Everyone improved throughout the day today," said Wilson. "We will look for continued improvement throughout practice and into our next competition."
The Hoosier rowers get back into the shells next Saturday, April 12, when they head to the Knecht Cup in Camden, N.J. The two-day competition will be held on Cooper River and over 50 schools will take part in the race.
