IU CONTINGENT IS HEADING TO MEXICO THIS WEEKEND FOR 6TH FINA GRAND PRIX SUPER FINAL

Bloomington, Ind. - Indiana University divers Cassandra Cardinell and Sara Hildebrand, both of whom just last week returned from a FINA Grand Prix event in Rome, Italy, will depart for Tultitlan, Mexico, on Thursday to compete at the 6th FINA Diving Grand Prix Super Final, which will be held this Saturday and Sunday. At the end of this month, from June 24-29, Cardinell and Hildebrand will join fellow Indiana University divers Marc Carlton, Ryan Fagan, and Brian Mariano, as competitors at the 2003 Speedo National Diving Championships, which will be held at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.
Indiana head coach Dr. Jeff Huber will be one of two coaches representing the United States at this weekend's FINA Grand Final and also at the 2003 FINA World Championships, which will be held in Barcelona, Spain, in July. Said Huber, "Sara and Cassandra have had a very good international season to this point and I am looking forward to seeing what they can do against the best divers in the world. It will be an exciting weekend."
This weekend's FINA Super Final will gather the top eight point scorers from this year's FINA Grand Prix series in every event (but not more than two from any national federation) and the top four countries in synchronized events. Hildebrand, who has exhausted her eligibility at Indiana and will be doing her student teaching in Bloomington this fall, captured the 3-meter competition at the Grand Prix tour stop at The Woodlands, Texas, last month and finished second on 10-meter platform at the tour stop in Rome two weeks ago. Hildebrand and Cardinell, who will be a senior at IU this fall, combined to win both the 3-meter and 10-meter syncho titles at the Rome tour stop.
In July, Cardinell and Hildebrand will travel with Huber to Barcelona to compete at the 2003 FINA World Championships.
