FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Former Hoosier and current New England Revolution forward/midfielder Pat Noonan was named Major League Soccer's Player of the Week on Monday. Noonan, who exhausted his eligibility at Indiana in 2002, scored two goals in the Revolution's 2-1 win over the MetroStars in East Rutherford, N.J., Saturday. The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week by a panel of journalists from the Professional Soccer Reports Association (PSRA).
Noonan was the ninth overall pick by the Revolution in the MLS SuperDraft last January. The Ballwin, Mo., native has scored five goals this season and racked up six assists for a total of 16 points. That mark ranks second among all Revolution players.
Noonan was a three-time All-American and two-time runner-up for national player-of-the-year honors while playing for head coach Jerry Yeagley at Indiana from 1999 to 2002. He is also one of just 14 Hoosiers players to break the 100 career point barrier and was twice selected as IU's Male Athlete of the Year.
Noonan is the second former Indiana player to be named the MLS Player of the Week this season. Chris Klein (1994-97), who currently plays midfield for the Kansas City Wizards, earned the honor on April 15.
