Goldman Breaks Wins Record

Bloomington, Ind. - Indiana head coach Duane Goldman became the program's all-time winningest coach as the Hoosiers swept three opponents at the Indianapolis Duals on Sunday. IU defeated Carson-Newman, 47-0, Cumberland, 40-3 and Indianapolis, 46-6 to improve to 15-3 in dual action this season.

Goldman, in his 12th season, now has 146 career victories (146-79-4 overall), surpassing Charlie McDaniel's total of 145 wins (145-139-11).

Five Hoosiers collected perfect 3-0 records, including junior Andy Rios (184), sophomores Nick Spatola (133), Matt Cooper (157) and Brady Richardson (174), along with redshirt freshman Josh Buuck (HWT).

In addition, senior Coyte Cooper (141), junior Pat DeGain (197) and true freshman Pat Barth (125) all went undefeated with 2-0 records.

Rios, ranked 17th in the nation at 184, picked up his first technical fall and second fall of the year as he moves to 21-5 overall and 14-4 in dual meets.

No. 13 Richardson increased his winning streak to 14 matches with his three victories. Richardson is 21-5 on the season and 15-2 in dual action. The Vincennes, Ind., native won all his matches by pin fall, giving him five on the year.

Buuck remained unbeaten wrestling as a heavyweight as he won his three matches by pin fall. The Fort Wayne, Ind., native is 8-0 wrestling in the heavyweight division after going 3-4 in the 197-pound division.

Spatola went 3-0 for the second straight day, moving to 8-6 overall and 6-4 in duals, while Matt Cooper completed a 5-1 weekend improving to 9-6 overall and 8-4 in dual meets.

No. 5 Coyte Cooper ran off two victories and is now 26-1 on the season and 16-1 in dual action. The Anacortes, Wash., native captured two pin falls, giving him a team-high 11 on the season.

DeGain, the nation's 11th-ranked wrestler at 197, won both his matches, going to 20-3 overall with a 14-1 dual mark. The Clarkston, Mich., native won his matches by major decision, giving him six this year. Additionally, DeGain has won 15 of the last 16 matches in which he has competed

Wrestling at 125 for the third time this season, Barth picked up a pair of victories to round out a perfect 3-0 weekend. Barth is now 3-0 wrestling at 125 and 3-3 overall.

Up next, the Hoosiers open their Big Ten season on Friday, Jan. 23 at Wisconsin at 7 p.m. The following afternoon, IU travels to Evanston, Ill., to face the Wildcats of Northwestern and Missouri Baptist at 2 p.m.
