DeGain Claims Second Place

DeGain opened competition with a fall at the 2:06 mark in the first period over Ben Connell on North Carolina. He followed that with back-to-back victories over Renwich Richardson of Cumberland College via fall and Pete Ziminsk of Eastern Illinois, 6-4, before falling to second-seed Jake Hager of Oklahoma, 6-5, in the finals.
At 141 pounds, senior Mike Simpson posted a 5-1 record as he defeated Merrick Meyer of Truman State, 5-4, to earn third-place honors. Redshirt-freshman Max Dean also had an impressive open as he defeated Charles Jones of Oklahoma, 6-2 to claim third place at 157 pounds..
At 174 pounds, junior Brady Richardson claimed a fourth place showing after dropping his third-place match to Kenny Robertson of Eastern Illinois, 6-3. At 133 pounds, Andrae Hernandez started his freshman campaign off on a strong note as he recorded a fourth-place finish after falling to Amond Prater of Missouri, 3-2.
Senior Andy Rios earned fourth place after dropping a close match to second seeded Matt Pell of Missouri, 9-6 at 184 pounds.
Sophomore Josh Buuck earned a fifth-place finish at 197 pounds after earning a medical injury forfeit over Jared Massey of Wisconsin.
In the freshman/sophomore division, Jose Escobedo earned third-place at 125 pounds after defeating Josh Sampo of Lindenwood. Bloomington, Ind., native Heath Vandeventer finished second after dropping his championship match to Dallas Herbst of Wisconsin, 7-5 at 197 pounds.
Indiana is back in action on Nov. 27 when they travel to Lock Haven, Pa. for the Mat Town Invitational at 9 a.m. at Thomas Fieldhouse on the Lock Haven campus.
