DeGain Captures Midland Championships, IU Eighth

Senior Mike Simpson was the other Hoosier place-winner taking fourth at 141 pounds.
DeGain advanced to the championship match defeating defending Division II National Champion Les Sigman of Nebraska-Omaha, 7-3 in overtime in the morning session.
While en route to the individual title, DeGain defeated three higher seeds, including fifth-ranked Matt Fields of Iowa and fourth-ranked Matt Feast of Penn.
At 141 pounds, Simpson dropped into the consolation round after falling to second-seed Andy Simmons of Michigan State, 4-0. Simpson rebounded to post victories over Mike Hurley of Cleveland State, 12-8 and fifth-seed Alex Tsirtsis of Iowa before suffering a medical forfeit to Donald Lockett of San Francisco State.
The Hoosiers return to action on Jan. 14-15 when they travel to Hampton, Va. for the 2004 Virginia Duals beginning at 9 a.m.
