Hoosiers Fall to MSU, 19-14

"We wrestled well as a whole, but certain uncontrollable things didn't go our way," said Indiana head coach Duane Goldman. "Not everybody wrestled up to their individual potential."
Four Hoosiers earned victories on the afternoon, led by No. 8 Joe Dubuque (125). The sophomore defeated Craig Trombly by major decision, 11-3 for his 27th victory of the season. After starting the season 1-2, Dubuque has reeled off 26 victories in 28 matches. The Bloomfield, N.J., native closes the Big Ten season with a 5-2 record and now has eight major decisions on the year.
Sophomore Nick Spatola scored his second conference victory of the season, downing Tony Greathouse with a 12-3 major decision at 133. Spatola evens his overall record at 11-11 and dual record at 9-9 with his second major decision this season.
13th-ranked Brady Richardson knocked off Anton Hall, 10-6 at 174. The Vincennes, Ind., native closes the Big Ten campaign with a 3-4 mark and an impressive 24-9 overall record.
Returning to the lineup for the first time since sustaining a severe ankle sprain against Minnesota (Feb. 7), No. 9 Pat DeGain picked up a 6-3 win over Jeff Clemens in the 197-pound match. The junior closes out his regular season with a 23-5 overall record and a 3-2 mark in the Big Ten.
Senior Coyte Cooper had his 11-match winning streak snapped, dropping a 6-0 decision to ninth-ranked Andy Simmons. The sixth-ranked wrestler in the nation at 141 pounds lost for the first time in Big Ten action (6-1) and is now 34-2 on the year. Simmons improves to 24-7 overall with a 7-1 conference record.
Finally, 12th-ranked heavyweight Josh Buuck lost a tough 4-3 match against Mike Keenan. The loss is just Buuck's third of the season as a heavyweight (13-3) and in the Big Ten (4-3).
Up next, the Hoosiers return to the mat in two weeks at the Big Ten Championships on March 6-7 in Columbus, Ohio.
