Hoosiers Qualify 14 For NCAA Championships

Bloomington, Ind.— The Indiana women’s swimming and diving team will send a contingent of 14, one of the largest teams in school history and at this year’s meet, to compete in the NCAA Championships this week, March 18-20.
“It is exciting to be part of this team going into the NCAA Championships this week,” said head swimming coach Dorsey Tierney. “We feel honored to have one of the largest teams represented at the NCAA Championships. This meet is the fastest competition in the world at the 25-meter short course length and we are excited to be competing against the best.”
The Hoosiers will look to improve upon their 16th place finish at last year’s 2003 NCAA Championships where they finished with 66 points. There will be 13 swimmers and one diver at the meet, representing the Hoosiers this year including Sarah Fiden, Erin Gorlesky, Doherty Colgin, Kristen Bradley, Brooke Taflinger, Meghan Medendorp, Annica Lofstedt, Lauren Lubus. Erin Smith, Clarissa Wentworth, Leila Vaziri, Tammy Kostner, Sarah Bugden and Lindsay Weigle.
The Hoosier relay teams will provide some stiff competition this year. The 200-meter freestyle team of Lofstedt, Medendorp, Smith and Kostner are seeded third in the nation going into competition. The 800-meter relay team is seeded 13 and the 400-freestyle team is seeded 15.
