Additionally, junior Pat DeGain's run at the Championships came to an end in the consolation quarterfinals following an overtime defeat to Kyle Cerminara of Buffalo.
Cooper moved onto the consolation semifinals with a win over Stanford's Brad Metzler, 7-3 in the consolation quarterfinals. Up next, the eighth-seeded senior fell to fourth-seeded Jason Mester of Central Michigan, 13-0.
On Saturday, Cooper will take on ninth-seeded Cory Cooperman of Lehigh in the seventh-place match. The Anacortes, Wash., native heads into the bout 3-2 at the NCAAs and 41-5 overall with Cooperman holding a 23-5 record.
At 125, Dubuque ran off his fifth straight victory, downing Mark McKnight of Buffalo, 6-4 in the consolation quarterfinals. However, the sophomore had his winning streak snapped, falling by default to third-seeded Matt Valenti of Pennsylvania. Dubuque is now 5-2 at the Championships.
In his first appearance at the NCAAs, Dubuque will battle Rob Rebmann of Drexel for seventh place on Saturday. The Bloomfield, N.J., native enters the match with a 34-8 record, while Rebmann carries an 18-5 mark into the bout.
Cerminara avenged an earlier 3-1 loss to DeGain on Jan. 3 in Bloomington with a 2-1 overtime victory at 197.
DeGain finished the NCAAs with a 2-2 record, advancing to the quarterfinals for the first time in his two trips to the Championships. DeGain ended the season at 28-8 and was ranked as high as eighth during the season.

Three Hoosiers Still Alive at NCAAs
St. Louis, Mo. - Three Indiana wrestlers are one victory away from garnering All-America honors at the NCAA Championships. Coyte Cooper, Pat DeGain and Joe Dubuque each need one win on Friday evening to claim a spot in the top eight in their respective weight classes, guaranteeing a spot on the All-America team.
Despite losing for the first time at the Championships, Cooper and DeGain are poised to make a run in the consolation bracket. Cooper, the eighth seed, won his first two matches on Thursday before falling to top-ranked Scott Moore of Virginia, 10-5 on Friday. The loss drops the senior to 40-4 on the year (2-1 at the NCAAs), while Moore moves to a perfect 49-0 (3-0 at the NCAAs).
Cooper returns to the mat in Friday's evening session against Brad Metzler of Stanford. Metzler enters the match with a 30-5 overall record and a 2-1 mark at the Championships.
DeGain is now 2-1 at the NCAAs following an 8-4 defeat to third-seeded Sean Stender of Northern Iowa at 197. The junior falls to 28-7 on the year with Stender improving to 17-6.
Up next, the 11th seed will face off against Kyle Cerminara of Buffalo on Friday evening. Cerminara is 3-1 on the weekend and 40-4 overall. The two grapplers met earlier this season in Bloomington (Jan. 3) with DeGain downing Cerminara by pin fall.
After losing his opening match of the Championships, Dubuque has reeled off four consecutive victories. The sophomore pinned Christian Bowerman of Fresno State and defeated 12th-seeded Efren Ceballos of Cal. St.-Bakersfield, 6-3 to advance to the final 12 in the 125-pound weight class.
Dubuque, the eighth seed, takes a 33-7 record into Friday evening's match against Mark McKnight of Buffalo. McKnight is 2-1 at the NCAAs and 34-7 this season. Like DeGain, Dubuque squared off against his opponent on Jan. 3 in Bloomington, beating McKnight, 3-1.
