Day One at BT Championships

Overall, Indiana sits in ninth place with a score of 37. IU finished ahead of Michigan State (30.5) and Northwestern (26).
At 125, the fourth-seeded Dubuque advanced to the semifinals before falling to the top seed and second-ranked wrestler in the nation, Luke Eustice of Iowa, 6-5. Dubuque, the eighth-ranked wrestler in the country, downed fifth-seeded Mark Moos of Michigan by major decision, 17-6 to advance to the semis.
On Sunday, the sophomore will face sixth-seeded Bobbe Lowe of Minnesota in the consolation semifinals. Dubuque is 28-5 with nine major decisions on the season.
Cooper also moved onto Day Two of the Championships at 141. After falling in his opening match to No. 6 Michael Martin of Illinois (10-8 in sudden death), the Anacortes, Wash., native reeled off two victories to move onto the consolation semifinals.
The eighth-ranked wrestler in the nation dropped Theo Dotson of Ohio State by major decision, 14-1 and pinned seventh-seeded DeWitt Driscoll of Penn State.
Cooper is now 36-3 on the year with 13 pins and 10 major decisions. He will face fourth-seeded Tommy Owen of Minnesota Sunday afternoon.
Richardson, the 13th-ranked wrestler in the country, continued the Hoosiers success going 2-1 en route to securing a spot in the top six at 174. The Vincennes, Ind., native entered the Championships seeded sixth, giving himself a first-round bye. Following a loss to third-seeded Jon Duncombe of Minnesota, Richardson bounced back with a 10-4 decision over Andrew Curran of Northwestern, and an 8-6 sudden death victory over seventh-seeded Nick Roy of Michigan.
Richardson will take on No. 5 Pete Friedl of Illinois in the consolation semifinals on Sunday. The sophomore heads into the match with a 26-10 record this season.
Finally, junior Pat DeGain was the final Hoosier to move on at the Championships. The fourth seed pinned Ryan Flaherty of Wisconsin, gaining a spot in the semifinals at 197. He went onto face No. 1 Damion Hahn of Minnesota and dropped an 8-3 decision.
The ninth-ranked wrester in the nation faces Michigan State's Jeff Clemens in the consolation semifinals. With his 1-1 record on the day, DeGain is now 24-6 on the year, with eight pins.
Six Hoosier grapplers saw their seasons come to a close. Josh Buuck lost both his matches, concluding a brilliant run at heavyweight. The redshirt freshman lost to third-seeded Pat Cummins of Penn State before dropping a heartbreaker to Mike Little of Northwestern, 10-9.
Buuck, entered the Championships seeded sixth and ranked 11th nationally, and closed out his campaign with a 13-5 record as a heavyweight, including victories in his first 12 matches in the class.
In addition, sophomores Nick Spatola (133), Cameron Sakon (149) and Matt Cooper (157) saw their seasons end. Meanwhile, junior Andy Rios (184) and true freshman Mike Sabatello (165) dropped both their matches, ending their seasons.
The four remaining IU grapplers return to the mat Sunday, with Session III beginning at noon and the finals starting at 2 p.m.
