Hoosiers Fall to Purdue 94-92;Titan Series Remains Tied

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—Despite 18 Hoosiers turning in personal bests during Saturday’s dual meet with arch-rival Purdue, the Indiana women’s track and field team could not hang on as they lost to the Boilermakers, 94-92. While the Boiler women picked up the Titan Series point, the Hoosier men won, 106-78 to keep the series tied at 8.5 apiece.
Freshmen sprinters Courtney Johnson and Stacey Clausing had excellent outings for the Hoosiers as each placed first in their respective events. Johnson won the 100m hurdles with a personal best time of 13:68, which was also a regional qualifying time. In addition, Johnson won the 400m hurdles with another personal best time of 1:03.77. Clausing placed first in the 200m and the 400 with times of 24.28 and 54.63 respectively. Clausing’s time in the 400m was a new personal best.
Also turning in personal bests this afternoon was Christina Archibald in the high jump(1.69m/5-06.50), Julie Shields in the 1500m (4:46.56), Lorian Price in the 100m hurdles (14.28), Darcelle McCutcheon in the 100m hurdles (14.80), Michele Huber in the 400m (55.40) and 200m (26.41), Sara Gilleran in the high jump (1.57m/5-01.75), LaDonna Ray in the 800m (2:12.63), Jennifer Emley in the 800m (2:17.69), Christina Barniak in the 800m (2:18.05), Andrea Dalla Rosa in the hammer throw (47.60m/1556-02.00), Abbey Rinker in the hammer throw (42.91m/140-09.00, Jennifer Cobbina in the triple jump (11.77m/38-07.50), Jackie Taylor in the discus(46.04m/151-00.00) and Jenna Wienke in the discus (123-09.00). Distance runners Audrey Giesler and Kelly Siefker both ran PR's in the 3K with times of 9:40.57 and 9:49.99, respectively.
“We are so much better than we showed today,” said head coach Randy Heisler. “I thought the women sprinters did a great job. We had a lot of PR’s today, but that obviously wasn’t enough. Every point counts, hopefully for our next few meets our girls were realize that.”
