Bloomington, Ind. -- Indiana wrestlers Coyte Cooper and Andy Rios were selected to the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Academic team. The two are the sixth and seventh Hoosiers, respectively, to be honored by the NWCA.
Cooper, a physical education major, was selected to the team for the second time in his career. The Anacortes, Wash., native was an NWCA All-American following his sophomore season in 2000-01.
The All-American closed out his final campaign with a 41-6 record and an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. Cooper wrapped up his career with an incredible 127-36 mark and four consecutive trips to the NCAA Championships. His 127 wins place him tied for third with former All-American Brian Dolph on IU's all-time wins list.
Additionally, Cooper's 39 career pins are good for third place on Indiana's all-time pins list, just one pin behind former All-American Roger Chandler.
Rios, a finance major, earned his first selection to the All-Academic team.
On the mat, Rios completed his most successful season as a Hoosier. The 184-pounder went 24-12, including a first-place finish at the Northern Iowa Open on Dec. 6.
