IU Ready for Hoosier Relays

BACK IN ACTION
The Indiana men's and women's track and field team return to action as the Hoosiers host their third open of the season, the Hoosier Relays. The two-day event starts on Friday, Jan. 28, at 4 p.m. and will continue into Saturday where events will begin at noon. The Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse will serve as the venue on both days.
THE FIELD
Sixteen schools will compete in the Hoosier Relays. Arkansas State, Belmont, Eastern Illinois, Evansville, Florissant Valley CC, Hillsdale, Indiana State, Indianapolis, McKendree, Middle Tennessee State (women), Rend Lake College, South Alabama, Southern Indiana, Southeast Missouri, Vincennes and Western Kentucky are all scheduled to compete. In addition, there will be several unattached competitors and club programs.
CLAUSING LEADS HOOSIERS AT TRI-MEET
The Hoosiers won 17 of 30 events at the Big Ten Tri-Meet sweeping Ohio State and Purdue. The women, who won nine events, were led by sophomore Stacey Clausing, who earned two individual victories as well as a relay first-place finish. Clausing took first in the 200-meters with a run of 24.53 seconds. She then won the 400 with a personal-best 55.15, edging out senior teammate Charlene Maddox, who finished second with a 56.80. Clausing later teamed up with Maddox, sophomore Michelle Huber and junior LaDonna Ray to lead the women to victory in the 4x400-meter relay. The quartet finished with a time of 3:48.52.
CLAUSING TOPS WINS LIST
Sophomore Stacey Clausing has three individual and three relay victories on the season to lead the Hoosiers with six first-place finishes. Seniors Aarik Wilson and Ara Towns, along with sophomore Lorian Price, are all tied for first with Clausing with three first-place finishes in an individual event on the season.
TOWNS QUEEN OF THE 60
Senior Ara Towns is a perfect 3-for-3 in the 60-meter dash this season. Towns ran a 7.61 in the Hoosier Open, a 7.62 in the Hoosier Classic and a 7.56 in the Big Ten Tri-Meet against Ohio State and Purdue. Her career-best time of 7.34 at last year's Big Ten Championship, is the fourth-best mark in school history.
