BLOOMINGTON, Ind.-- The Indiana women's basketball team has been picked to finish eighth in the Big Ten Conference's preseason poll, as voted by the coaches and media announced the league office on Sunday, Oct. 30 at media day. The Hoosiers finished ninth in last year's conference standings and look to improve in the rankings this year with the help of 10 returning letterwinners and first-year head coach Sharon Versyp.
Ohio State, which shared last season's league title with NCAA runner-up Michigan State, was selected as the preseason favorite in both polls. The Spartans ranked second followed by Minnesota (No. 3/4), Purdue (No. 3/4), and Iowa (No. 5) rounding out the top five. The coaches and media differed on the third-ranked team as the league mentors selected Minnesota, while the media voted for Purdue.
The Hoosiers begin their preseason on Thursday, Nov. 3 against the Hoosier Lady Stars at Assembly Hall at 7:30 p.m. IU's regular season starts with a match against the defending national champion Baylor on Nov. 19 following the IU vs. Purdue football game. All of the Hoosiers' games can be heard on WHCC 105.1 with Jeremy Gray calling all the action.
