BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Head wrestling coach Duane Goldman announced 125-pound national champion Joe Dubuque and NCAA qualifier Brady Richardson as the 2005-06 team captains.
"These two seniors have great leadership qualities and their competitive experience will help us throughout the season," Goldman said. "This is a team that will grow with every competition and looks to get better with every match."
Indiana returns six grapplers from last year's squad and adds six newcomers. The two seniors have a tough road ahead of them, as the Hoosiers are young in a number of weight classes.
"We might be young, but everyone on the team is hungry to win," Dubuque said. "It is going to be a tough season, but the incoming freshman and the returners are looking forward to a good year."
Dubuque looks to not only lead the team off the mat but to defend his national title in 2006. Richardson, who moved to the 197-weight class after competing at 174 in 2004, seeks to return to the national stage and take All-American honors.
Indiana will open its season on Nov. 20 at the Missouri Open in Columbia, Mo.
