Hoosier Spotlight: Angel Escobedo

Every week of the Indiana wrestling regular season schedule, IUHOOSIERS.com will highlight the past or current performance of a Hoosier grappler. This week, IUHOOSIERS.com will spotlight freshman Angel Escobedo and his efforts to go 11-2 in his first three competitions as a Hoosier.

So far in 2005-06, freshman Angel Escobedo has proved his high school success has prepared him well for the collegiate arena. A former four-time high school state champion, Escobedo has placed in every tournament this season. The Griffith, Ind., native started off the season going 4-1 en route to a third-place finish at the Easter Michigan Open. Escobedo continued his success and win streak, rattling off four straight wins at the Michigan State Open to claim his first collegiate title. In Escobedo's last outing, the freshman went 3-1 to nab fourth-place at the Missouri Open.
Escobedo is 11-2 on the season at 133 pounds, tallying one fall and on major in the process. Escobedo was part of a top-10 recruiting class for the Hoosiers in 2005 and looks to continue his success throughout the 2005-06 season.
