Spotlight on Sarah Jones

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana head coach Dorsey Tierney, head diving coach Dr. Jeff Huber and the Indiana women's swimming and diving program announced that Kristen Cihoski (Yorktown, Va./Tabb), Abby Cooper (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy), Caitlin Heyman (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall), Sarah Jones (Battle Creek, Mich./Battle Creek Central), Allison Kay (Strongsville, Ohio/Magnificat), Katie Mitsch (Yorktown, Ind./Yorktown), Kelly Morris (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen), Alison Soelter (Wichita, Kan./Trinity Academy), Sarah Stockwell (Kent, Wash./Kentlake), Andrea Weintraub (Encino, Calif./Milken Community) and Kristy Winck (Newburgh, Ind./Castle) will attend IU beginning with the 2005-06 campaign.
In the coming weeks, we will spotlight each IU signee individually. The fourth Hoosier in the series is Jones.
Jones, a four-year letterwinning freestyle specialist from Battle Creek, Mich., led Central to the 2002 All-City Championship. Additionally, Jones qualified for the state championship the past three years and captured finalist honors in 2003 and 2004. Meanwhile, Jones was the conference scoring champion in 2004 and claimed the conference crown in both the 50 and 100 free in 2003 and 2004. Also of note, she helped her 400 free relay team break a 27-year old record her senior season. Jones also epitomizes the volunteer spirit as an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, and a participant in the Battle Creek Aquatic Club "Learn to Swim" program. Academically, Jones earned National Honor Society membership her sophomore year and a berth on the Academic Honor Roll each of her four prep years.
"Sarah competed in several sports in high school and has chosen to focus on the sport of swimming for her collegiate career," Tierney said. "With her explosive athleticism, quiet confidence and strong work ethic, Sarah will be a tremendous asset to our sprint program."
