QUOTING COACH PETERSON
On training during spring break:
"The spring break trip is the final phase of preparation before we begin our racing season. We will spend much of the time continuing to work on the student-athletes' physical conditioning (that never ends throughout the whole year) and rowing technique. It is, however, during that time that we will really begin to finalize our race strategies and plans. The practices and training will focus more on specific aspects of the race, and we will rehearse and practice them so they become so ingrained in the student-athletes that they have only one thing to think about on race day...pull."
Reflecting on last season's spring trip:
"It was during our spring break trip to Clemson last year where the varsity eight really made huge strides in their rowing and that is why I think they did as well as they did last season. We are looking to achieve some of the similar gains this year so that we will be even faster this year."
On the field:
"We will be facing off against Clemson, Purdue, Marist College and the University of Buffalo at the end of the week in our first race of the season. All four are good crews that should give us an early indication of how things are progressing for our team this year. Like ourselves, Purdue, Marist and Buffalo have all had limited water time because we are in a colder climate than Clemson, so I look at them as the biggest challenge to us. They have already raced once this season beating Eastern Michigan on Lake Hartwell (Clemson's home course and where we will be racing) last week."

The Indiana rowing squad heads to the nation's capitol, Washington D.C., for a race against Georgetown and North Carolina on March 26.
