BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University women's rowing squad continues to mount an impressive spring season by reaching new plateaus on a weekly basis. This week's newest achievement, IU received votes in the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/USRowing regular season poll for the first time in school history.
"Obviously, it is great that we received votes in the CRCA Top 20 poll," Indiana head coach Steve Peterson said. "I am very excited for the crew because it just shows the progress this team has made over the past couple of years. Although it is great to have gotten votes, it is important to remember that it is just a poll, and that the season is far from over. You look at the NCAA Basketball Tournaments and there are plenty of teams who were ranked very high in the polls that are no longer playing. So, everyone needs to remember that we can fall out of the poll as quickly as we got into it. As I will keep saying all year, our goal is to go from start to finish as fast as we can, and getting overly excited about getting on a poll doesn't help us do that. If the women keep focusing on their jobs, which is to work as hard as they can, and to row as well as they can, the polls will take care of themselves."
Princeton claimed the top spot with 20 first-place votes and 453 points, while Yale was second with a top nod and 419 tally. Ohio State is the highest ranked Big Ten squad with 399 points, while Michigan was fifth with 355 and Michigan State was 11th with 193 points.
Next up, the Indiana rowing squad heads to Cincinnati, Ohio for a regatta against Cincinnati, Dayton, Eastern Michigan and Louisville on April 2.
