"Overall, it was definitely a tough day of racing for us," Indiana assistant coach Fran O'Rourke said. "We made some strides and raced hard. There were definitely some positives and negatives to be gained from today. We just need to keep on working, and start back anew on Monday. Today will keep us hungry to keep getting faster and faster."
In the morning session, Notre Dame's V8+ claimed the crown in 6:56.8, while the IU shell of sophomore Betsy Hibbard (cox), senior Amanda Walker (stroke), junior Lauren Anderson, senior Kelly Schuiling, junior Ashley Airis, junior Laura Lazaridis, sophomore Stacey Young, sophomore Rozzie McHenry and sophomore Dana Powell (bow) picked up second 7.08 seconds back. Purdue trailed by 24.59 seconds for third place.
In the 2V8+, the Fighting Irish won in 7:14.0, while the Hoosier contingent of senior Sarah Meyer (cox), sophomore Colleen Ryan (stroke), senior Addie Bell, junior Elisabeth Benoit, sophomore Courtney Valerious, sophomore Lanie Deppe, sophomore Meredith Hanschu, sophomore Laura Stebbins and junior Carly Schilling (bow) placed second 6.61 seconds back. Purdue came in a distant third, 28.19 behind Notre Dame.
In the V4+, Notre Dame 1 (8:00.27) and Notre Dame 2 (6.61 back) picked up the top two spots, while the IU boat comprised of sophomore Raechelle Medellin (cox), junior Erin Kuehn (stroke), senior Annie Lawson, senior Stephanie Weert and senior Kristin Storer (bow) finished third 26.69 seconds back. Once again, Purdue placed fourth 51.51 seconds behind the top crew.
In the 2V4+, the Fighting Irish crossed the line first with a 8:21.6, while IU's team of sophomore Richelle Medellin (cox), senior Ashley Quinn (stroke), junior Jessica Hillsley, freshman Juliana Koons and sophomore Krista Brown (bow) came in 19.05 seconds behind.
In the N8+, Notre Dame claimed the title in 7:21.3. Purdue placed second 10.36 back, while the IU lineup of freshman Meg Monaghan (cox), freshman Alyse Bruszewski (stroke), junior Megan DeCamilla, freshman Sara Deuser, freshman Ashley McClure, freshman Casey Keating, freshman Teresa Snider, freshman Alison Beasley and freshman Amanda Mitchell (bow) placed third 12.26 seconds behind.
In the afternoon session, Louisville broke up Notre Dame's sweep with a first-place 7:06.74, while the Fighting Irish took second, 6.82 seconds back in the V8+. IU's shell finished third 12.04 seconds behind.
In the 2V8+, Notre Dame won in 7:20.31, with Louisville in second 6.10 second behind and IU in third 10.41 seconds back.
In the V4+, the Fighting Irish placed first in 8:09.2, while Louisville took second 6.11 back, and Northwestern finished third 15.39 seconds behind. The Hoosiers wound up fourth 24.82 seconds back.
In the 2V4+, Notre Dame 2 (8:18.2) and Notre Dame 1 (8.20 back) swept the top-two spots, with IU in third 38.42 seconds behind and Northwestern in fourth in 45.37 back.
In the N8+, Notre Dame 1 (7:38.1) and Notre Dame 2 (8.37 back) completed another sweep for the Fighting Irish, while IU's shell placed third 11.58 seconds back and Louisville took fourth 28.51 seconds behind.
Next up, the Indiana rowing squad invades Big Ten territory with a regatta against Ohio State and Minnesota in Columbus, Ohio on April 16.
