Cardinell 15th on Tower at Worlds

MONTREAL, Canada - Graduated senior Cassandra Cardinell closed out the platform competition at the 2005 FINA World Championships in Montreal with a 452.94 to take 15th place. Her synchro partner Laura Wilkinson advanced to finals as the top-scorer with a 536.19.
Cardinell opened up the round with an armstand backwards two-and-a-half somersault with one-and-a half twist for a 59.52 tally. In the second round, she posted a 66.60 with a forward three-and-a-half somersault. In the third round, Cardinell hit a rough patch with a 32.64 on an inward three-and-a-half somersault dive. The tough time continued in the fourth round with a 47.52 on a backward three-and-a-half somersault dive. Cardinell, however, bounced back with a 67.32 on her fifth dive, a backwards two-and-a-half somersault with one-and-a-half twists.
In the semifinal rounds, Cardinell opened up the sixth with a 38.88 on a forward one-and-a-half somersault. She then hit a 44.46 on an armstand somersault in the seventh round. In the eighth, she posted a 45.60 on a backwards one-and-a-half somersault with a half twist. In the ninth and final round, she nailed an inward one-and-a-half somersault for a 50.40.
Wilkinson will compete at 4:45 p.m. local time.
