Loukas, Underwood Claim 12th in 3m Synchro at Worlds

MONTREAL, Canada - Rising freshman Christina Loukas, and her partner Nancilea Underwood, closed out the 2005 FINA World Championship three-meter synchronized diving final in 12th place in Montreal. The pair tallied a 260.28 in the final session of diving action. China's Ting Li and Jingjing Guo claimed the gold with a dominant 349.80 tally over Germany's Ditte Kotzian and Conny Schmalfus' 319.05 total for silver. Ukrainians Kristina Ishchenko and Olena Fedorova snared bronze with a 308.82 effort.
In the opening round of the final session, Loukas and Underwood notched a 50.40 on an inward dive set. In the second round, the duo posted a 46.80 on a backwards dive. In the third round, the tandem recorded a 47.80 on a forward three-and-a-half somersault. In the fourth round, the twosome responded with a strong 62.10 backward two-and-a-half somersault. In the fifth-and-final round, the pair closed out the day with a 53.10 effort from a forward two-and-a-half somersault with one-and-a-half twists.
