Incoming Freshmen Shine at Speedo Junior National Championships

IRVINE, Calif. - Indiana Swimming's incoming class of freshmen displayed their wares at the 2005 Speedo Junior National Championships in Irvine, Calif., Aug. 9-13. Of particular note, Heath Tameris picked up a breaststroke sweep during the meet.
During day two, Tameris claimed the crown in 2:19.15, while Justin Peterfish took fifth in 2:24.10 in the men's 200 LCM breaststroke. In prelims, Tameris clocked a 2:19.76 as top qualifier, while Peterfish advanced in the final championship heat transfer spot with a 2:24.77.
In preliminary action, Abby Cooper took 58th in the 100 LCM freestyle with a 1:00.36, before finishing 44th in the 200 LCM breaststroke with a 2:46.96. Meanwhile, Keith Dawley tied for 29th with a 2:08.21 in the 200 LCM butterfly.
In day four, Tameris completed the breaststroke sweep with a first-place time of 1:04.69 in the 100 LCM breaststroke, while Peterfish took 12th with a 1:07.00. In prelims, Tameris touched as the top qualifier in 1:04.60, while Peterfish posted the 11th-best time from the morning with a 1:06.81.
Additionally, Tyler Boulden finished 55th in 1:09.77. On the women's side, Cooper wound up in 34th with a 1:15.40. Meanwhile, Dawley finished 39th in the 100 LCM butterfly with a 58.44.
In day five, Tameris demonstrated his versatility by placing 11th in the 200 LCM IM in a time of 2:10.21. During prelims, Tameris qualified with the 14th-fastest time of the morning in 2:10.99. Meanwhile, Cooper claimed 48th in 27.89 in the 50 LCM freestyle.
