Swander Earns Second Silver at World University Games

IZMIR, Turkey - Rising junior Kevin Swander captured his second silver medal of the 2005 World University Games in Izmir, Turkey. The Greenwood, Ind., native swam the second leg of the 400 LCM medley relay for the United States. Overall, the U.S. registered a 3:39.35, while Ukraine won the event in 3:38.49.
In the 200 LCM backstroke, rising sophomore Susanna Ernst finished 15th with a time of 2:24.50. In prelims, the Vienna, Austria, product posted the 14th-best time with a 2:23.42. Meanwhile, Swander finished fifth in the 50 LCM breaststroke with a 28.34.
"We are very proud of both swimmers," Indiana head coach Ray Looze said. "It is wonderful to see Susanna get international experience in the consolation heat. That is going to carry over into the collegiate season. Ideally, she can help us at a big final in that event at Big Tens and qualify for NCAAs. It also was outstanding to see Kevin get another medal. To come back from his first international meet with two silver medals speaks to his incredible performance He did IU proud with how he swam."
