BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - From time to time, rising sophomore Elaine Deppe will provide a diary of the off-season experience of an Indiana rower as well as her thoughts on what it is like to be a student at Indiana University.
Summer is quickly coming to an end. It was just a week ago that summer classes got over with and now they're starting right back up again. Being a rower is even harder, because our season goes into the summer (even when classes are over) so your summer vacation is cut shorter than everyone else's.
This summer, I decided to take a class in Summer Session II. I had never taken summer classes before, so I didn't know what I was getting into. It was definitely a lot more challenging than I thought. I didn't think taking one class was going to be a big deal. But to schedule it around rowing, lifting and having a job is rough.
Being a student athlete is a job in itself, and then to have another job on top of that and classes is a full load. But being constantly busy is good; it just makes you work that much harder! At the end of the day, even though you're completely exhausted, it feels good knowing how much you've accomplished.
