BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - From time to time, junior Elaine Deppe will provide a diary of the off-season experience of an Indiana rower as well as her thoughts on what it is like to be a student at Indiana University.
The first week of classes are off to a good start. Classes have been going well, except for the torrential downpour we've had from Hurricane Katrina. On campus recruiting has also been very successful. We had our second informational meeting and had even more people show up than the night before.
I've also been seeing a lot of the people that we've recruited on campus working out at the university gym facility. It makes me really excited to see how pumped these people are about a new sport and how much they want to contribute to the team. Having them work this hard even before practices start is amazing; it shows how hard working our team is this year!
Official practice starts in just a few weeks. The varsity has all been working so much harder on their own this summer, training for the upcoming year. I think this is the best shape our team has been in before the official season starts!
