Cardinell, Loukas To Join Swander at World University Games

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana head diving coach Dr. Jeff Huber, graduating-senior Cassandra Cardinell and rising-freshman Christina Loukas will join fellow Hoosier rising-junior Kevin Swander in Izmir, Turkey for the 2005 World University Games Aug. 11-21, as announced by USA Diving today.
"I am very pleased that IU has two divers on the team," Huber said. "I knew that Cassandra would probably make the team, but it is nice to have Christina, who is a freshman, make the team as well. I am looking forward to coaching both of them and the rest of the US team at the games."
Cardinell will vie for the individual platform crown, while Loukas will join her for the synchronized tower battle. Additionally, Loukas is the first alternate on the tower in case Cardinell does not compete. Furthermore, Huber is one of two initial team coaches selected by USA Diving, along with Jeff Shaffer of Auburn.
Previously at the 2005 World Championship Trials, Swander touched in 2:15.84 in the 200 LCM breaststroke to improve his own Olympic Trial Cut and smash his previous school-record time of 2:16.32 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. Additionally, the performance guaranteed swims for Swander in the 50, 100 and 200 breast events at the Universiade.
