Eating Her Way Through the Competition Written by: Doug Klausen
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Not only does freshman Christina Loukas typically eat through her competition, she also enjoys eating after performing on the boards.
After digesting the opposition in the pool, Loukas loves to enjoy a well-prepared meal. She really has no particularly favorite food or restaurant as long as it doesn't come from the cafeteria.
"I like to eat. I like all foods and there is no restaurant I don't like," Loukas said. "My favorite pizza place is Mad Mushroom because of their cheesy bread, but I also like the Pizza Queen."
Loukas, a Riverwoods, Ill., native, is having a great freshman year. Recently, she took first place at the 2005 Big Ten Championships in one-meter diving, and set a pool and school record while taking Big Ten Diver of the Championships and Diver of The Year.
She approaches her athletic endeavors with the same zeal as she does her after-meet meal. Recently, she became part of the U.S. Diving Team in February as well as claimed seven event crowns throughout the season. She also has placed in the top three fifteen times and cleared the NCAA zone qualifying mark eighteen times.
Loukas, alongside senior Cassandra Cardinell and junior Lisa Silvestri, is battling the collegiate scene this weekend in hopes of capturing an NCAA diving crown.
