Canadian Breakfast Written By: Doug Klausen
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Junior Kristen Bradley likes her breakfast and has made it a ritual with her teammates. Every Sunday for the past two months, she and her teammates make an effort to walk down Walnut Street and have a hearty breakfast at the Village Deli, the Bakehouse or the Runcible Spoon.
Not only is breakfast a ritual for Bradley, but returning home every summer to her hometown Newmarket in Ontario, Canada is also a habit. She revisits her native country and continues to stay active by playing volleyball and basketball.
"I love home and it is totally different," Bradley said. "We have a cottage an hour and half from where I live, and it has a lake and brings out the nature side of me."
Bradley will be a senior next year, but the three years she has in the books are extensive. Before coming to IU, she was a member of the senior and junior Canadian National Team winning both the 200 and 400 IM in the Canadian Nationals. During her freshman year, her greatest accomplishment came in the Big Ten Championships where she placed 10th in the 200-yard IM. Her sophomore season, she swam in the Canadian Olympic Trials placing third in the 400 IM. She also earned All-American honors at NCAAs where she finished 10th in the 400 IM and at Big Ten Championships took third in the 200-yard IM putting up anew school record. In her junior year, she swam a leg on the school record breaking 200-yard medley relay at Big Tens. She has put up four career bests this season and won 18 event titles.
