In 2002-03, head coach Duane Goldman led the Hoosiers to a school record 16 dual meet victories. The record eventually fell the following as Goldman led the 2004-05 grapplers to 17 wins.
The year marked the presence of Coyte Cooper, Greg Schaefer and Ty Matthews on the NCAA stage, as each made the trip to the championships.
Indiana finished 10th (30) at the Big Ten Championship and 43rd at the NCAA Championship (7.5).
The program also earned a prestigious academic honor from the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA), with three Hoosiers named to the NWCA Academic All-American team, while IU earned a 23rd ranking as a team.
Cooper, Alex LaPointe, Mathews, Brady Richardson, Andy Rios, Schaefer, Brandon Sisson and Allen Wienzapfel each garnered Academic All-Big Ten accolades. With eight named to the team, the year marked only the third time in school history IU earned eight or more selections in the same year.
