BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - From time to time, junior Elaine Deppe will provide a diary of the off-season experience of an Indiana rower as well as her thoughts on what it is like to be a student at Indiana University.
There's something about the first few weeks of the semester that brings out the competitive beast in everyone. It has been so fun pairing up with my teammates and attacking workouts like we have been the past couple weeks! As much as we're all friends, we're also here pushing one another in preparation for the season. I'm really looking forward to solid, fierce Indiana Racing!
From sunrise to sunset, I am focused. I like knowing that it's not only in the workouts that I'm doing that gets me closer to my goals, but through everything. From schoolwork to family/friends, everything seems to contribute to making our team the best it can be. Knowing that we all have our own goals really puts it up to the individual to do anything and everything in their power to achieve them. At the same time, I like knowing that it isn't only a few people doing this, because Indiana Rowing doesn't consist of a few people. It's all of us; rowers, coxswains, coaches and supporters.
There is no question among us as far as who is ready for official practice to begin on Sept. 19. The most exciting question to me is, who will be ready for Indiana Rowing? Who is the match for what Indiana Rowing is going to bring to the table this year? I'm thinking this is the right time for us to decide!!!
