TAMPA, Fla. - The Indiana rowing team is currently training in Tampa, Fla., for its winter training trip from Dec. 31 to Jan. 7. The Hoosiers will write in to IUHOOSIERS.com from time to time to let everyone know how the team is doing. Junior Courtney Valerious is the third to report in from Tampa.
The awaited Tampa training trip is well under way! We are working very hard and have the blisters to prove it! This morning, we set out in four eights, each boat mixed with novice and varsity rowers. There was a great competitive feel in the air as we lined up to race one and two-minute pieces against one another. The togetherness and cohesion of the morning set the tone for the day as we have been growing closer as a team over the last few days here in Tampa. This afternoon, we had separate varsity and novice races where we worked on perfecting our team speed. With this afternoon marking our fourth row of the trip, we are definitely improving overall and building on the strokes that we took during the fall. Our bodies are sore and tired but we are working and sweating hard with our eyes set on a common goal: to win races in the spring!
Tonight, we held the annual Indiana Rowing talent show where everyone is dragged to the front of the room to display some sort of hidden talent. It is something we look forward to every year and get a good laugh out of our ever so talented teamates! Since varsity and novice typically practice separately, the talent show gives our group a better sense of unity and helps us get to know each other better.
Tomorrow, we are hoping for more beautiful weather and are anxious to get back on the water as we continue to improve one stroke at a time!
