BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana's rowing team will participate in two events this weekend, hosting Louisville in a scrimmage on Saturday, Oct. 21, and competing at the prestigious Head of the Charles in Boston, Mass., on Sunday, Oct. 22.
Neither Louisville nor Indiana will have its first varsity eight at the scrimmage on Oct. 21, as both squads will be in Boston for the Head of the Charles. However, each team's remaining varsity and novice crews will take to Lake Lemon for a head race and several pieces. The head race is slated to start at approximately 2 p.m.
The following day, the Hoosiers' first varsity eight of Betsy Hibbard (cox), Courtney Valerious (stroke), Rozzie McHenry, Colleen Ryan, Laura Stebbins, Dana Powell, Jamie Spoto, Kiri Crane and Elaine Deppe (bow) will take part in the women's championship eights race on the Charles River. The three-mile race has 46 entrants, including several collegiate and club teams and the U.S. Rowing National Team, and should start at approximately 4:26 p.m.
The Head of the Charles is the biggest regatta in the rowing world, with several thousand spectators expected to line the banks of the river to cheer the crews on.
