BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's and women's track and field teams concluded competition at the Hoosier Relays on Feb. 4 at Gladstein Fieldhouse. The Hoosiers picked up five first-place finishes, seven personal-best marks and an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the meet's second day of action.
"Overall, I am really pleased at where we are at this stage of the season," Indiana director of track and field Randy Heisler said. "We got out of this meet what we wanted. We were able to put a lot of people out on the track and a lot of them came through. David (Neville) ran well again today after sitting out last meet. The jumpers had an outstanding weekend. We are excited to travel next weekend to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Tyson Invite. We will see some tough Southeastern Conference competition and try to get some more of out athletes qualified for the NCAAs and ready for the Big Ten meet."
Kiwan Lawson became the fifth Hoosier to earn a NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Lawson's leap of 7.50m (24-7.25) in the men's long jump met the provisional qualifying mark in that event of 7.45m (24-5.50). For the second time this season, David Neville met the provisional mark set by the NCAA in the 400m with an impressive run of 46.69.
In thrilling fashion, Neville edged out the competition in the 400m with a provisional qualifying time of 46.69. After meeting the NCAA's provisional mark in day one of the Hoosier Relays, Courtney Johnson claimed first-place in the 60m hurdles with a personal-best time of 8.43. For the fifth time in as many weeks, Jeff Coover nabbed the pole vault title with a personal best vault of 5.10m (16-8.75). Candice Perry outjumped the competition in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.73m (18-9.50). In the much-anticipated men's 5,000m, Marcus Aguliar clinched first place with a winning time of 14.58.15.
Seven Hoosier etched new personal-best times by their names in day two of the meet. Chris Honig (mile), Kyle Jenkins (triple jump), Lindsay Hattendorf (mile), Stephanie Greer (mile), Courtney Johnson (60m hurdles), Andrea Dalla Rosa (weight throw) and Coover (pole vault) all earned new best marks in their respective events.
To round out the competition, the women's 4x400m relay team ran a season-best 3:46.31 time en route to a runner-up finish.
