Rowing Opens Season with Spring Break Trip

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana rowing squad returns to action after its winter hiatus with a battle against Clemson, Marist, Pennsylvania and Purdue in Clemson, S.C., on March 18 to conclude the spring break training trip slated from March 13-18.
QUOTING COACH PETERSON
On the upcoming season:
"This spring is going to be interesting. We have been dealing with a ton of injuries. It seems like every week, we have problems to deal with. That being said, I do feel like we are still going to have a pretty good season."
On the Clemson regatta:
"It is a great starting point for us. I feel like if we are at the level where we need to be, we should be able to beat those crews. Not easily, but we should. If we aren't doing what we should be, we are going to lose to them. It is going to be real important as that first race will be a challenge, but definitely one that is attainable."
On heading into Spring Break:
"Heading into Spring Break, we have been doing a lot of good work. We have been on the water a fair amount already. Our numbers are small, but the novice and recruits have been making significant improvements. I think we are cautiously optimistic."
2004-05 HIGHLIGHTS
• The Indiana University rowing squad surged to its best finish in Big Ten history after taking sixth place with a total of 46 points in the 2005 Championship on Lake Lemon at Riddle Point Park April 30.
• Laura Lazaridis earned IU's initial All-American honor in program history. She garnered second team accolades.
• The Indiana University women's rowing squad made history as the Big Ten Conference tabbed the Varsity 8+ shell as the Boat of the Week on March 22. The accolade is the first such honor in the program's five-year existence.
• IU received votes in the CRCA USRowing regular-season poll for the first time in school history
