CLEMSON, S.C. - The Indiana rowing team is currently training in Clemson, S.C, for its spring break training trip from March 12-18. The Hoosiers will write in to IUHOOSIERS.com from time to time to let everyone know how the team is doing. Junior Colleen Ryan is the first to report in from Clemson.
It's March again. You know what that means: Spring Racing Season! While all the other college students at Indiana University are heading to the typical, boring vacation destinations like Cancun or Acapulco, the Indiana Women's Rowing Team is in Clemson, S.C. We came ready to work and push ourselves to our limits everyday, twice a day. We left Bloomington in the rain on Saturday morning and arrived in bright and sunny Clemson that night.
Today was our first day on the water. We arrived at Lake Hartwell and rigged all of our boats. We could not have asked for a more perfect morning. Both of today's practices were about mileage. It has been a few days since we have been on the water and today was helpful in getting back into rowing. We are going to work extremely hard this week. We have set very high goals for our team this season and are destined to achieve them.
Coach Steve Peterson told us this morning that he is going to be harder on us now than in the past. He is going to demand perfection from us, as we should demand from ourselves. Each stroke is an opportunity to get better and faster than the other crews. We, as rowers, are also working on being able to coach ourselves on the water. The coaches can only do so much, but they are not the ones in the boat on race day. If we want to be successful this season and in the future, we have to set high standards now. We are all ready to show our competition how we row at Indiana.
