ATHENS, Ga. - The No. 16 Indiana women's swimming and diving team is currently competing in the 2006 NCAA Championships in Athens, Ga., from March 16-18. The Hoosiers will take time out of their incredibly busy schedule to talk to IUHOOSIERS.com. Senior Heather Chapman talked about making the NCAA diving draw, as well as seeing her former teammates at Tennessee.
It has been fun at NCAAs so far. I am not really disappointed with my meet so far. I actually had a pretty good day, but didn't hit my back twister today. (Indiana head diving coach Dr. Jeff) Huber wasn't disappointed with my competition. If I had done the dive like I usually do it, it would have bumped me up to around 20th place.
I am just excited to be at nationals right now, because each day is leading up to tower. That is the reason I am not disappointed in what I am doing, because these are not my events. Tomorrow, I just hope that all three of us (Chapman, Christina Loukas and Lindsay Weigle) are in finals. I am just taking these days as practices going into tower with confidence and knowing that it is my event. It is so weird how the mindset changes. I just go into tower knowing I don't really care about these events until tomorrow. I know that I can beat these girls that are beating me today. It is funny, too. I know that a lot of the girls on springboard are scared to go up there. Tomorrow is my day.
It has been so much fun getting closer to the swimmers that are here. It has also been fun to see Tennessee here as well after transferring from there. It is different, because I always thought that going to Tennessee would have gotten me here. It is so much more rewarding to be here with Indiana. I know they are rebuilding their program, but I have so much more proud walking onto the deck as a Hoosier and knowing that I made the right decision. Knowing that Huber is behind me is cool. It has just been an awesome experience. This is the Big Dance. I have always gone to zones and not been able to get here. It is cool to see all the other teams here from the Southeastern Conference. I have never been able to compete against them; I had always just known they were at NCAAs. It is really cool to see IU go against Tennessee, because I finally made it to nationals.
