CLEMSON, S.C. - The Indiana rowing team is currently training in Clemson, S.C, for its spring break training trip from March 12-18. The Hoosiers will write in to IUHOOSIERS.com from time to time to let everyone know how the team is doing. Sophomore Kiri Crane is the sixth to report in from Clemson.
Nervousness, anxiousness, exhaustion, excitement and race plans fulfilled our last day of training before our first race of the season and the first race ever for many. Today was about mental preparation and strategy as we approached race day. After days of training in Clemson and months of training in Bloomington, the payoff of all our hard work is almost here and we are all very excited.
Practice began this morning with exhausted athletes about to begin our final day of training and finished with excitement after completing a strong and confident practice - not to mention Maddie's perfect landing into the dock! We went through our race day warm up, the starting sequence and our race plan as we went down the course. The water was busy with traffic from Clemson, Purdue, Marist and Penn crews all fitting in one last practice.
For 25 of our student-athletes, tomorrow is the first race as an Indiana Hoosier. While we do not know what exactly to expect of tomorrow, we do know that we have worked hard for this day and for the racing season to begin. Something has driven us to wake up and work hard before the sun comes up. Something has encouraged us to dedicate what feels like all our energy to this sport. That something is race day and it's finally here.
Coxswains review race plans and lineups, while rowers rest well for the big day. The Indiana Hoosiers are ready to see the results of early morning after early morning of sweat, pain and pushing ourselves to be our fastest.
