Cooper Earns Championship Swim at American Short Course Championships

AUSTIN, Texas - Freshman Abby Cooper earned a spot in the 100-yard breaststroke championship final at the 2006 American Short Course Championships in Austin, Texas on March 2. Other Hoosiers also participated throughout the preliminary session.
In the 200-yard freestyle, incoming freshman Presley Bard placed 18th in a time of 1:50.99, which would nearly put her in the Hoosier top-10 in the event. Additionally, current freshman Megan Lonergan touched in a personal-best time of 1:58.69.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Cooper earned a spot in the championship finals with a fifth-place 1:04.21. Meanwhile, classmate Kristy Winck placed 18th in 1:06.43.
In the 100-yard butterfly, junior Susanna Ernst shaved two seconds off her personal best with an 18th-place time of 57.24. Additionally, sophomore Christie Fuchs took 34th with a time of 57.78, while freshman Caitlin Heyman turned in 59.43 in other prelim action.
In the 400-yard IM, Fuchs claimed 43rd with a personal-best time of 4:35.84, while Winck picked up 48th in a career-low time of 4:37.51.
