Indiana 125-pound senior Joe Dubuque
On winning his first two matches in Session One:
JD: "I felt a little slow at the beginning of both matches, but I worked through it and feel very good right now. I am not out here to put on a show; I'm out here to win a championship. If it's winning by one or two points or by 14, I'm just going to stick to my game plan and try to get the job done."
Michigan State 141-pound junior Andy Simmons
On what has been working well thus far for him:
AS: "I have been wrestling hard so far through sound technique and battling. You can't give up while you are on the mat. Next time out, I just need to stick to my game and keep attacking. I'll need to score as many points as I can as soon as possible."
Illinois 149-pound freshman Troy Tirapelle
TT: "It is important to get off to a quick start, whether it is in a tournament or a match. It's tough when you start off slow in the first period, fall into a deficit and try to work your way back. I still did a little bit of that today, but I had enough in me to come back. I knew that [Eric] was very explosive and good on his feet, which forced me to weather his attack. I figured that as the match went longer and longer, it would work to my benefit. In wrestling, it works out that if the individual is doing well, then the team is doing well. I was happy to get a win for the team."
Iowa 157-pound senior Joe Johnston
On getting the tournament off to a good start:
JJ: "When you go out onto the mat, you try to get focused, ready and go through a quick warm-up. You just want to try to do every little thing right. The rest is just up to your performance. We want to come out and take it to our opponents. That is not always going to happen, but that is what we want to do."
Illinois 157-pound senior Alex Tirapelle
On his second round victory against Penn State's Nathan Calloway:
AT: "I just tried to keep it on [Nathan] throughout the match and score as many points as I could. I was very happy to win and move onto the next round. You get everybody's best as the No. 1 seed, and the next match will be tough. I need to go out, wrestle hard and try to get into the finals."
Penn State 197-pound sophomore Phillip Davis
On his first round win against Ohio State's James Aston:
PD: "I felt that it was important to start strong right from the beginning. I just wanted to come out and put my team ahead early in the tournament. That is what was most important to me."
