Cardinell, Loukas Claim Synchro Tower Gold at U.S. Open

INDIANAPOLIS - The duo of former IU standout Cassandra Cardinell and sophomore Christina Loukas out-dueled Monica Dodson and Emily Griesemer for the synchronized platform title at the 2006 Speedo U.S. Open Championships in Indianapolis on April 22.
The Hoosiers put together a sterling 289.62 tally to win by more than 40 points. After an incredible initial two rounds during which Cardinell and Loukas picked up several nine-point marks from judges, they closed out the day with a trio of 60-plus dives that included an inward 3.5 somersault from a tuck position for 67.20 points.
In other action, Cardinell placed sixth in the individual platform competition with 285.20, while senior Heather Chapman took ninth with a 261.05 tally.
The U.S. Open concludes with women's individual and synchronized three-meter action as well as men's individual and synchronized platform competition on April 23.
