CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The No. 4-seed Indiana women's tennis team dropped a tightly-contested battle with rival and No. 5-seed Purdue, 4-3, in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Championship on April 28. After dropping the doubles point, the Hoosiers rebounded to split the singles affairs, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Boilermakers at the Illini Grove Tennis Courts in Champaign, Ill. No. 42 Indiana fell to 17-8 on the season, while No. 47 Purdue improved to 13-9.
The team outcome came down to a three-set battle between sophomore Brianna Williams and Mallory Voelker at the No. 3 positions. In the decisive third, Voelker claimed the team victory for the Boilermakers with a 6-2 victory in the set.
The Boilermakers won the doubles point with a pair of close victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions to open the match. She defeated Brooke Beier, 6-4, 6-2, in recording her 19th overall victory and 14th in dual-match competition.
