Pair of Olympians to Appear at IU Swim Camps

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana head coach Ray Looze and the swimming and diving program announced the addition of a pair of Olympians to its summer camp series. Both Amanda Beard and Lars Jorgensen will be a part of IU swim camp in June.
Beard, a 2004 gold medalist and former 200-meter breaststroke world record holder, will appear at the June 18-23 swim camp. She will offer incredible insight to campers as she also won a silver medal in 1996 and a bronze medal at the 2000 Olympics, while being the youngest U.S. swimmer in history to win an Olympic gold medal with a 400-meter medley relay win at 14 in 1996.
"We are very excited to have Amanda Beard visit IU," Looze said. "Her Olympic story is one we look forward sharing with our own swimmers and campers."
Jorgensen, a 1988 Olympian and six-time national titlist, will coach during the June 4-9 and June 18-23 camps.
"It is an honor to have Lars Jorgensen join our summer camp staff," Looze said. "As an Olympian, he brings a level of excellence and expectation that will act as an outstanding example to all our campers and swimmers."
Camp runs from Sunday afternoon through Friday morning. Enrollment is open to swimmers ages 8-18. Campers are housed at Foster-Jenkinson Dormitory and the facilities include the Counsilman/Billingsley Aquatic Center and Royer Pool. Day camp is also available.
