Vaziri Defends 100 Back Grand Prix Title Against Another Superstar

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Another Grand Prix event, another downed superstar swimmer for rising junior Leila Vaziri. After knocking off the world-record holder Natalie Coughlin at the Namesnik Memorial on the first stop of the USA Swimming Grand Prix, Vaziri rolled past Olympian Katie Hoff in the 100 LCM backstroke at the Charlotte UltraSwim. Vaziri clocked an Olympic Trial cut time of 1:02.72 at the Mecklenburg County Aquatics Center in Charlotte, N.C., on June 10.
In the 200 LCM butterfly, rising freshman Allison Kay claimed 15th in 2:22.09, while rising sophomore Christie Fuchs placed 21st in 2:23.01.
In the 50 LCM freestyle, Vaziri raced to seventh in 26.94, while rising junior Annica Lofstedt placed 20th in 27.42. In preliminary action, rising freshman Abby Cooper took 55th in 28.40, while incoming signee Alyssa Rosinko posted a 66th-place 28.53.
Joining Vaziri in the 100 back, rising junior Susanna Ernst placed 24th in 1:07.51, while Rosinko took 42nd in 1:09.34.
In the 200 LCM breaststroke, rising freshman Sarah Stockwell won the C final in 2:42.99, while Cooper finished 30th in 2:49.07.
In the 400 LCM freestyle, graduating senior Kristen Bradley placed 66th in 4:34.39, while Fuchs took 100th in 4:42.40.
