Hoosiers Wrap Up First Day at National Championships

IRVINE, Calif. - Four Indiana University swimmers participated in preliminaries at the 2006 ConocoPhillips National Championships/World Championship Trials at the William Woollett, Jr. Aquatic Center on Aug. 1, the first of five days of competition.
Rising senior Leila Vaziri led the way with a 26th-place finish in the 100-meter butterfly, as she touched in 1:01.93 to narrowly miss qualifying for a spot in the bonus final. Rising sophomore Allison Kay turned in a time of 1:03.74 for 76th place, while rising senior Clarissa Wentworth was 83rd with her 1:04.30 effort.
In the 200m IM, rising sophomore Kristin Cihoski paced the Hoosier squad with her 2:21.59 showing, good for 51st place. Kay was not far behind, as she touched in 2:21.97 for 54th place.
Competition resumes on Aug. 2, with the 100m back, 200m free and 400m free relay being contested.
