Action Continues at 2006 Pan Pacific Championships in Canada

VICTORIA, B.C. - Rising Indiana senior Leila Vaziri swam in the preliminaries of the 200-meter backstroke at the Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Swimming Championships at the Saanich Commonwealth Place Pool in Victoria, B.C., Canada, on Aug. 19.
Vaziri posted a time of 2:17.43 in the 200m back, taking 19th place in the preliminary session. The Coral Gables, Fla., product was the seventh American to touch the wall, and did not move on to the finals.
Vaziri has made a name for herself this summer in the 100-meter backstroke, winning the national title at the Conoco/Phillips National Championships on Aug. 2, and winning her consolation final at the Pan Pacs on Aug. 18 with the fourth-best time overall and the second-best American time. With one of the top two American times in the event this summer, Vaziri is in the running to represent the U.S. at the FINA World Championships in Melbourne, Australia, on March 17-April 1, 2007.
Vaziri and 2006 Indiana graduate Kristen Bradley will both be in action on Sunday, Aug. 20, with Vaziri competing in the 50-meter freestyle and Bradley swimming in the 200-meter individual medley. Bradley, a native of Lindsay, Ontario, is swimming for Team Canada.
The Pan Pacific Championships feature more than 300 athletes from Pan Pacific charter members the United States, Canada, Japan and Australia, and several guest federations.
