Hoosiers Wrap Up Stay at Pan Pacific Championships

VICTORIA, B.C. - Indiana senior Leila Vaziri and Hoosier alumna Kristen Bradley both swam in preliminary events at the Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Swimming Championships at the Saanich Commonwealth Place Pool in Victoria, B.C., Canada, on Aug. 20.
Bradley, a 2006 IU graduate, competed in the preliminaries of the 200-meter individual medley, and turned in a time of 2:20.80 to place 24th. The Lindsay, Ontario, native was the third Canadian to finish, and her time left her just outside of the consolation finals.
Vaziri was in action in the preliminaries of the 50-meter freestyle, and posted a 21st-place finish in a time of 26.70. The Coral Gables, Fla., native did not qualify for the finals.
Bradley, who owns the fastest 400m IM time in Canada this year, and Vaziri, who has the second-best American time in the 100-meter backstroke, will now both await word whether they will represent their respective countries at the FINA World Championships in Melbourne, Australia, on March 17-April 1, 2007.
The Pan Pacific Championships feature more than 300 athletes from Pan Pacific charter members the United States, Canada, Japan and Australia, and several guest federations. The meet concludes on Monday, Aug. 21, with the 10-kilometer open water event.
