Action Continues at U.S. National Championships

IRVINE, Calif. - Leila Vaziri swam to a 17th-place finish in the 200-meter backstroke at the 2006 ConocoPhillips National Championships/World Championship Trials at the William Woollett, Jr. Aquatic Center on Aug. 4, taking the top spot in the bonus heat.
Vaziri's time of 2.17.86 was good for an Olympic Trial cut, and would have been good for 13th place overall had she qualified for the consolation final. Vaziri, a rising senior, was 24th in the preliminaries of the event.
Two more Hoosiers swimmers were in action on the day, as rising sophomore Allison Kay and incoming freshman Brittany Barwegen both swam in the preliminaries of the 200m fly. Barwegen touched in 2:19.22 to 45th, while Kay finished 52nd with a time of 2:20.17.
The National Championships conclude on Aug. 5, with titles in the 800m free, 100m free, 200m breast and 400m medley relay on the line. Preliminaries start at 9 a.m. Pacific time, with finals slated for a 5:30 p.m. start.
